Your Peptide guide

Here’s a guide to understanding how to properly use GLP-1 peptide therapies, manage side effects, and support your body during the treatment.

What are Peptides?

They work by mimicking the body's natural GLP-1 hormone, which helps regulate blood sugar, insulin release, and appetite.

Technically, short chains of amino acids. They are signaling agents and their job is to direct our cells to perform specific tasks. With aging comes natural biological degradation. Peptide therapy helps by mimicking your body's own peptides, to elicit a desired response. As peptides are naturally occurring and specific in function, they are well tolerated within your body with minimal to no side effects

GLp1 peptides are used for :

* Decrease overall body fat composition

* Decrease cravings, food addiction/noise and appetite

* Allows your body to feel full with a small amount of food

* Lowers inflammation

* Shred excess abdominal fat

* Stimulate your metabolism, increase fat burning, and reduce appetite

* Increase in bone density

* Prevent hair loss and encourage growth

* Reduction in fat stores

* Regulating brain glucose metabolism

In addtion to weight loss reduction GLp1 peptides can also support in:

* Improving memory and learning

* Reduce inflammation in the brain, which can help promote brain health

* Reducing the risk of dementia

* Improving mental health

Tirzepatide is a dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist, meaning it mimics both glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic peptide (GIP) hormones, which are involved in regulating blood sugar and appetite.

Tirzepatide works by enhancing insulin secretion, reducing glucagon production, and slowing gastric emptying, leading to improved blood sugar control and reduced appetite.

Getting Started with Your Peptide Journey:

Sourcing

It is important that peptides come from reliable and safe sources. There are many "grey market" peptides online who use fillers that create negative reactions. . The only brand I trust is Limitless Life. Otherwise working with a doctor or peptide consultant who sources properly is wise.   I source from a ND doctor based in Santa Monica who I trust.

  • Week 2-12    1.5-2.5  once a week

  • Week 12: Increase to 5 mg once a week

Injection Instructions

GLP-1 medications are typically injected subcutaneously (under the skin). Here’s how to administer the injections:

  1. Wash Hands: Always start by washing your hands thoroughly.

  2. Prepare the Injection Site: Common injection sites are the abdomen, thighs, or upper arms. Rotate the sites to avoid irritation or lipodystrophy (fat loss or buildup under the skin).

  3. Inspect the Medication: Ensure the solution is clear and colorless. If the solution appears cloudy, do not use it. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on proper storage.

  4. Set the Dose: If using a pen, select the dose according to your doctor’s recommendations. Some pens are pre-filled, and others require manual adjustment.

  5. Insert the Needle: Pinch the skin lightly and insert the needle at a 90° angle (45° for thinner skin).

  6. Inject the Medication: Press the plunger or button on the pen to inject the medication. Hold it in place for a few seconds to ensure full delivery.

  7. Dispose of the Needle Properly: Dispose of the needlewith the front and back closures placed back on

Managing Side Effects

While GLP-1 peptides are effective, they may cause some side effects, especially when starting treatment or increasing doses. Below are common side effects, along with tips on how to manage them:

Gastrointestinal Issues:

  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, bloating, and loss of appetite are common, particularly during the initial weeks.

  • Support:

    • Start with a low dose and gradually increase it to minimize stomach discomfort.

    • Eat smaller, more frequent meals and avoid large, fatty meals.

    • Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.

    • Ginger tea

    • Rubbing belly with essential oils for digestion ( digestzen from doterra is nice )

  • Decreased Appetite:

    • Tirzepatide reduces hunger, which can lead to weight loss.

    • Support: Ensure you consume nutrient-dense foods, focusing on proteins, vegetables, and healthy fats to avoid nutritional deficiencies.

  • Fatigue:

    • Some people feel tired or weak, especially when adjusting to the medication.

    • Support: Make sure to get enough rest and sleep, and engage in regular, gentle physical activity.

  • Headaches:

    • Some individuals may experience headaches as a side effect.

    • Support: Staying hydrated and taking over-the-counter pain relievers (like acetaminophen) can help, but consult with your doctor if headaches persist.

  • Injection Site welts:

    • Small round itchy welts at injection site may or may not appear at some point, they go away on their own and are simply a cause of injection of skin.

Supporting Your Body During Treatment

To maximize the benefits of tirzepatide while minimizing side effects, consider these tips for body support:

1. Nutrition:

  • High-Protein ( 80-100 grams daily) , Balanced Diet: Since tirzepatide can suppress appetite, ensure your meals are high in protein, rich in fiber, and include healthy fats. This will help maintain energy levels, support muscle mass, and prevent nutrient deficiencies.

  • Small, Frequent Meals: Eating smaller meals throughout the day can help mitigate nausea and prevent overeating.

2. Hydration:

  • Staying hydrated is especially important, as gastrointestinal issues like diarrhea and vomiting can lead to dehydration. Aim for 8-10 cups of water daily WITH ELECTROLYTES I lke LMNT or some lime juice and sea salt is good as well, more if you experience diarrhea or vomiting.

3. Exercise:

  • Moderate Exercise: Incorporating regular exercise into your routine can improve your overall health, help manage weight loss, and increase insulin sensitivity. Both cardio (walking, cycling) and strength training (bodyweight exercises, weightlifting) are beneficial.

4. Sleep:

  • Quality Sleep: Proper rest is essential to recovery, especially as you adjust to new medications. Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep each night, and try to establish a consistent sleep routine.

5. Emotional :

  • This is a transformational journey that is beyond JUST THE weight loss or body. Our emotions and patterns and thoughts about our body and addictions to food come up to be reflected and felt.

  • Putting something new into your body can be scary and there can be moments of fear or worry. As long as you go slow and listen you are not in danger.

  • Visualizing the goal and stepping into a new version of your body is exciting and results come as long as you are being mindful of building muscle and eating protein. â€‹
